The Park Nanotransport Lab, led by Dr. Jungkyu (Justin) Park at Kennesaw State University, explores how heat moves through matter at the nanoscale, where classical thermal transport theory breaks down and new physics comes into play. Our research centers on carbon nanomaterials — including carbon nanotubes, graphene, and 3D carbon networks — and how their thermal transport properties are shaped by mechanical deformation, structural disorder, and atomic-scale symmetry. By combining molecular dynamics simulation with experimental characterization, we aim to uncover the fundamental mechanisms that govern heat flow in nanostructured systems, bridging computational insight with real-world material behavior.

Beyond carbon nanomaterials, the lab also investigates thermal transport in nuclear fuels, contributing to a deeper understanding of heat dissipation under extreme operating conditions. This work has broader implications for thermal management in electronics, energy conversion systems, and next-generation nuclear technologies. Supported by funding from the National Science Foundation, the Nanoscale Heat Transfer Lab is committed to advancing the science of thermal transport while training the next generation of researchers in atomistic simulation and nanoscale materials science.
